Polymorph
Developer: Rob Barrett
Swaps or attaches layers in After Effects, replacing shapes, text, footage or nulls with other layers.
What Polymorph does
Polymorph is Rob Barrett's tool for After Effects that handles layer replacement. If you built a layout with placeholders, you can swap those shape layers, text layers, footage or nulls for any other layer in the comp without redoing the setup.
It can also attach one layer to another instead of replacing it. This is useful when rigs or animations were designed around a stand-in and the final artwork arrives later. The tool is compatible with After Effects 2025 and 2026, and a demo video is available on the developer's page.
