Voxel Heat Diffuse Skinning
Developer: Mesh Online
Blender add-on that generates vertex weights for characters, including non-seamless meshes, via voxel heat diffusion.
What Voxel Heat Diffuse Skinning does
Mesh Online's Voxel Heat Diffuse Skinning automates character weight painting in Blender and copes with meshes that are not watertight, a case where Blender's own automatic weights often struggle.
The mesh is turned into a solid statue using a ray-traced voxel grid, and heat is diffused through it to give natural vertex weights. This is combined with Blender's own heat map diffusion, which takes care of fine regions like fingers and toes, with a physically based energy attenuation algorithm. Riggers and character artists save time on skinning.
