Helio
Developer: Mikydosh
Positions Blender's Sun and Sky Texture from real GPS coordinates, date and time using NOAA solar calculations.
What Helio does
Helio is a Blender plugin that sets up daylight lighting from real-world data. Enter a location, date and time and it works out where the sun should be, then sets both the Sky Texture and the Sun lamp accordingly.
Sun position follows the NOAA Solar Calculator algorithm, with atmospheric refraction correction for sunrise and sunset. Color temperature follows the sun's height, while intensity comes from Kasten's air mass formula, corrected for altitude. This makes it useful for architectural studies, shadow analysis and any scene that needs believable light for a specific place and moment.
Key features
- Sun position from GPS, date and time
- NOAA Solar Calculator algorithm
- Automatic colour temperature from sun elevation
- Refraction correction for sunrise and sunset
