M-Cleaner
Developer: Nikita Akimov
Blender add-on that finds duplicate materials in a scene and merges them into one with a single click.
What M-Cleaner does
M-Cleaner tackles the clutter of duplicate materials that builds up when you import objects from other blend files, libraries or kitbash sets. It detects identical materials and reassigns one unique version to the affected objects.
A Clear materials button in the 3D Viewport N-panel runs the cleanup. You can delete the duplicates right away or keep them with no users so Blender drops them when saving, and a merge-by-name mode strips suffixes like .001 and .002, though that option is destructive. It supports Blender 2.90 through 4.1.
