SMEAR
Developer: Jean-Basset
Blender add-on for stylized smear frames, with stretched and repeated in-between frames plus speed lines on 3D animation.
What SMEAR does
SMEAR brings the hand-drawn smear look to 3D animation in Blender. It generates and customizes smear frames so fast movement reads as stylized streaks and stretches rather than a plain sequence of poses. The add-on came out of the MoStyle research project.
The Elongated In-Between effect stretches an object along its path, with controls for past and future length, speed weighting, noise and manual weights. Motion Lines draw strokes along the trajectory of randomly chosen vertices. Animators and motion designers can use it to give character or object animation an expressive, illustrated feel.
Key features
- Elongated in-between stretching along the trajectory
- Past and future length with speed weighting
- Noise pattern and manual weight controls
- Motion lines drawn from random vertices
- Multiple in-between support
