Bonedaddy
Developer: Chuggnut
3ds Max script that saves a skinned mesh's vertex weights and restores them by index or position after mesh edits.
What Bonedaddy does
Bonedaddy protects hand-made skinning work in 3ds Max. It saves the vertex weights of an object with a Skin modifier so they can be put back after the mesh has been changed, a situation that would normally erase carefully painted weights.
Weights can be restored by index or by position. Restoring by position can be slow on meshes with a lot of faces, so index is the quicker choice when vertex order is unchanged. Character artists who need to revise topology late in production, without redoing every weight, will find it a time saver. It is by Chuggnut.
Key features
- Saves vertex weights of a skinned object
- Restores weights after the mesh changes
- Restore by index
- Restore by position, slower on dense meshes
