Split Blur
Developer: Satori
Kaleidoscopic, painterly blur that splits the image into rotating copies, with luminance-driven distance.
What Split Blur does
Split Blur from Satori produces a blur unlike a typical gaussian: it repeats the image in copies placed at equal spacing around a ring centred on the original, giving a kaleidoscopic and painterly look in After Effects and Premiere Pro.
You choose how many splits there are and rotate them, with a graph showing the layout. Curve controls map pixel luminosity to blur distance, and twirl controls add swirl. The effect can target luma, separate RGB, or a single channel. Edge options are Wrap, Mirror, Repeat Last and Transparent, and a depth map from a 3D render or footage can drive intensity.
